Granted, it’s a bit of a stretch: what exactly is a “Dictionary of Imaginary Quotations”? A collection of things that nobody actually ever said? Well, in effect, yes—that’s precisely what it is.

Don’t get me wrong. I love quotations, real quotations. But bookshelves and websites are already littered with fine examples of inspiring collections of real quotes. I do not pretend to be able to add anything to that.

What I can do, however, is present you with quotations that nobody has ever heard before. Bright and shiny, freshly minted for your perusal, right here at Scribblings Central Station. And that is just what you’ll find in our Dictionary of Imaginary Quotations.

This does leave us with a slight problem, though. If no one spoke or wrote these sentences, whom should they be attributed to? I’ve decided to resolve the issue by giving each quotation its own imaginary author.

You will find new imaginary quotations popping up here every week. To make sure you never miss one, just follow them via InstagramFacebook, RSS or email.

To find out what’s in the dictionary right now, just click on the link in the main menu or go straight to: A Dictionary of Imaginary Quotations.
